New Photo Series: “My CN Tower” Reimagines Views of the Iconic Toronto Skyline

The CN Tower is one of the most iconic elements of Toronto’s skyline. Ever since childhood I have been fascinated by this building – or as it was originally called “the tallest free-standing structure in the world.”

Though it would later be eclipsed by super towers like the Burj Dubai, the CN Tower holds a very special and sentimental place in the hearts of many Torontonians.

This series looks at the magic of the tower in the context of an exploration of the views that don’t exist or are obscured. With the city always under construction this becomes truer with every passing season.

Here’s my artist statement:

“The CN Tower is everywhere in Toronto but from many neighbourhoods, and even downtown, it is obscured or partly visible. This project, by Toronto-based artist, Mike Simpson, reimagines the possibilities. Could we see the tower from every street corner, balcony or park?”

In this new series I reimagine the tower in a number of places where the view would be obscured or non-existent.
